Nancy on the Issues

Please see the following update of some of the latest happenings at the Legislature. Read Here.
Tax Reform
It is hard to take care of your family when government takes such a big piece of your paycheck. That’s why Nancy has worked in the Legislature to reduce the burden that taxes place on you, your family and business. She understands that free markets with limited government intrusion make everything more affordable. As our voice at the Legislature, Nancy will continue to fight for lower taxes and work to eliminate the outrageous increases in property taxes many of us have realized.

UPDATE:
Large Lot Residential Property
Last session this bill was vetoed but I reintroduced the legislation this session with changes that should satisfy the Governor’s concerns. The bill (now HB 2130) passed the House Ways and Means Committee 6-2 and is scheduled next for Committee of the Whole. The effort has significant bi-partisan support since it makes so much sense. Currently, residential property owners in Maricopa County and other urban areas are taxed at the vacant land rate of 16% simply because they own more than one acre for their horses or another private use whereas many counties allow up to 40 acres at the lower 10% rate, depending upon local government restrictions or other barriers to subdivision. The situation has become an issue of great interest because of rising home valuations from the housing boom, resulting in people being taxed off their land as a result. It also is contributing to the development of open spaces.

Limited Government
Nancy Barto believes that our state government should live within its means just like Arizona families do. As our State Representative, Nancy has fought to eliminate wasteful spending and ensure that state government is run as efficiently as possible – fulfilling its proper role of governing without mortgaging our children’s future.
Securing Our Borders
It is clear that our Federal government has failed miserably in securing our borders and addressing the effects illegal immigration has upon our state. Nancy Barto believes that government has a moral obligation to the citizens of Arizona to deal effectively with the problem of illegal immigration. That’s why Nancy supports taking every necessary step to secure our borders and stop those who choose to break our laws and come into Arizona illegally.
Pro-Life, Pro-Family
Nancy Barto is dedicated to protecting and preserving traditional family values. A dedicated advocate for the rights of the unborn, Nancy is committed to protecting the right to life at every opportunity and at every stage of life. As our State Representative, Nancy is also committed to protecting traditional marriage from concerted efforts to redefine marriage as any other relationship besides one man and one woman. Government promotion of unions other than this undermine the unique roles of men and women within the family, roles that have stood the test of time throughout recorded history, and represent a social experiment risking the well-being of children for future generations.

A Good Education for Arizona’s Children
Every Arizona child should have the opportunity to receive the best education possible. That’s why Nancy Barto supports choice in education. Nancy believes that parents should not have to settle for the status quo but have real, viable alternatives when it comes to choosing what is best for their children and will work to ensure all Arizona students are given every opportunity to succeed rather than remain trapped in underperforming schools or ones that are not preparing them for a lifetime of learning success.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Nancy Barto believes that your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms should always be protected. As our State Representative, Nancy supported legislation at the Capitol strengthening your second amendment rights and will oppose any attempt to restrict your right as a law abiding citizen to protect yourself, your family, and your property.
